Molly Qerim’s handsy encounter with Deion Sanders went viral this week ahead of Colorado’s big game against Colorado State.
The most talked-about story in college football over the past few days has been the Buffaloes’ looming showdown against the Rams.
On paper, a No. 18 ranked team going against an unranked squad shouldn’t be a big deal. That said, big talk from the latter side’s head coach has changed the narrative.
Ahead of Saturday’s massive showdown, Sanders appeared on ESPN’s First Take. There, he and Qerim had something of a handsy encounter while greeting each other.
Qerim is no stranger to setting the internet ablaze. As the host of Stephen A. Smith’s signature program and one of the preeminent sports personalities in the game, she has blown up online for everything ranging from her wild workout photos to her provocative outfit choices. This is just par for the course.
If it feels like Sanders has been in the headlines nonstop as of late, it is because he definitely has been. Between that Paige Spiranac video that set the internet ablaze and his pledge to not ditch Colorado for the NFL, he has been a mainstay in the news cycle.
Aside from that one Colorado cheerleader whose racy personal photos leaked out, nobody has been able to steal Sanders’ shine.
That said, everything continues to rest on the Buffaloes being a winning program. The reason Sanders is getting so much attention is because Colorado beat a ranked TCU squad in Week 1. Between that and blowing out Nebraska last week, an aura of legitimacy now surrounds the program.

Should Colorado State make this competitive or even win, some of the magic surrounding Sanders and Co. would immediately vanish.
If Colorado loses to Oregon next week, no one will hold it against them. The Ducks are a perennial powerhouse and ranked this year. But losing to Colorado State, especially after all this buildup, isn’t an option.
How will Sanders and Colorado fare against Colorado State on Saturday? Time will tell, but if they win, this likely won’t be the last time ‘Coach Prime’ and Qerim meet in the 2023 college football season.
