EAGLE, Idaho (KBOI) — Local agencies are scrambling to handle the historic snowfall. Ada County commissioners have declared a state of emergency as more snow is expected over the weekend.
Eagle Mayor Stan Ridgeway released a statement Saturday, saying in part:
"I understand that our residents are frustrated with what seems like a slow response from the City to clear streets but to put it in perspective, Eagle has only 5% of the population of all Ada County, which means fewer resources including snow removal and the staff to remove it.
The City of Eagle has been working diligently to clear as much public space as we can. The city owns two light weight plow trucks and a four wheeler to clean sidewalks. We have a small maintenance crew of one but have contracted two individuals to help. Because of our small staff, as your mayor, I have been reporting to work with along with the crew every morning at 6 o'clock to operate a plow truck myself to help rectify the extreme snow conditions."
Boise and Meridian mayors declared a state of emergency earlier this week, something the Eagle mayor does not have the authority to do.
Mayor Ridgeway says Ada County Highway District (ACHD) Commissioner Paul Woods and Director Bruce Wong have promised that the National Guard will help with cleaning efforts in downtown Eagle.
Residents are encouraged to check out the City's website for updates.
